Responsibilities
- Conduct original research on the design, fabrication, and control of soft robotic systems.
- Explore novel actuation and sensing strategies for adaptive, multifunctional robots.
- Publish results in leading journals and present at international conferences.
- Mentor and collaborate with graduate and undergraduate researchers.
Required and Preferred Skills
- Core expertise in one or more areas:
- Design of soft robotic mechanisms (kinematics, CAD, origami- and bio-inspired architectures)
- Fabrication techniques (molding, soft lithography, 3D/4D printing of elastomers, composites, or hydrogels)
- Microcontroller programming (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, embedded systems)
- Pneumatic, hydraulic, or electromagnetic actuation methods
- Sensors and feedback control integration
- Additional desirable skills:
- Origami/kirigami-inspired soft robotic structures
- Finite element modeling and multiphysics simulation of soft materials
- Machine learning methods for robot design and control optimization
- System integration for untethered or autonomous soft robots
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fields.
- Strong publication record in recognized journals.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team.
- Strong written and spoken English communication skills.

We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join our project on Metamaterials for Physical Intelligence, focusing on the design and fabrication of functional 4D-printed metamaterials capable of actuation in multiple external fields.
Responsibilities
- Develop and synthesize novel materials (composites, particle-filled resins, and smart polymers).
- Advance multi-material 3D printing techniques and in-house printing platforms.
- Design and fabricate metamaterials actuated by thermal, magnetic, and electric fields.
- Collaborate in a multidisciplinary team spanning materials science, mechanical engineering, and robotics.
- Publish research outcomes in high-impact journals and present at international conferences.
Desired Skills & Experties
Candidates should demonstrate expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Materials synthesis, including composites and functional materials.
- Custom 3D printing system development (direct ink writing (DIW), digital light processing (DLP), or related methods).
- Multi-material additive manufacturing for structural and functional integration.
- 3D printing with ferro-magnetic particles or other functional fillers.
- Printing functional metamaterials with stimuli-responsiveness to thermal, magnetic, and electric fields.
Additional preferred skills (not mandatory but advantageous):
- Smart hydrogels and shape-memory polymers.
- Embedded sensing and functional integration during printing.
- Finite element modeling of multi-physics metamaterials.
- Microfabrication and post-processing methods.
